2005 GALLERY 'B'

JUST BE
6" x 6"
Encaustic and collage on muslin
This is a playful piece, with a bee under the beveled glass in all its beauty and unusual stillness. How very easy and how complicated is it to "just be"?

LET GO (a.'s kitchen)
30" x 30"
Encaustic and collage on cotton
Again, working with the 'held loosely' theme; this time with my hands also grasping and trying to contain the water that flows through. The futility of this and the freedom that comes when we "let go" is celebrated here.

NOT BLACK AND WHITE
2 x 5" x 6"
Encaustic and collage on canvas
A black and a white feather are contained under glass panels here - along with dried peony flowers and gold leaf ... wax oozes under the glass
exposing layers below.

OUTSTANDING IN HER FIELD
9" x 7"
Encaustic and collage on canvas
Salvaged from an earlier painting (15 years ago) the photo of this unknown woman walking near her farmhouse inspired me to create this collage and put in items that I imagined were part of her life.

PIT
6" x 7"
Encaustic and collage on canvas
A challenging day was transformed by the making of this little painting. the 'boat' appeared and the blue square emerged from the gold leaf to carry me
to a place of equanimity

REALLY SAVOURING THE VIEW & CHANGELESS
2 x 6" x 7"
Encaustic and collage on canvas
Using found objects that inspired me was the jumping off point for these. The first is about appreciating the 'view' from wherever we are ... and the second is an acknowledgement that change is the only constant.

... SUCH HOPE IN THIS HEART
62" x 26"
Encaustic and collage on wood
My Grandmother's wedding dress lies imbedded in layers of wax on a bed of letters written to her by my Great Grandmother. Collaged into the heart are her ideas about marriage, passed through the generations to me.
Sixteen thorns are imbedded in the folds of the dress.

DETAIL... SUCH HOPE IN THIS HEART
Here is easier to see the edge of the dress and the barbed wire that surrounds the heart area - where the collage is. Sewn into the dress are the words ... there was once such hope in this heart.

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE
8" x 8"
Collage on wood
This collage is multi-layered, with much of the imagery obscured. Windshield glass and dictionary words echo the title of this piece - a sentence that has a deep significance to me.
