SIMPLE LIVING
2003
30" x 30"
Encaustic / Mixed Media
This collage is based on a poem by the same name, written by the woman who commissioned it. Broken twigs, dry grass, fine sand, rose petals, feathers and seeds surround the center, a loosely sewn sprial of calm sunshine.

FULL MOON
2003
20" X 28"
Encaustic / Mixed Media
A companion to "Dark Moon" - this painting explores the cycle of the moon, from beginning to beginning again. The full moon is a time of achieivement and clear seeing. Words and symbols are sewn in the center to illustrate this. A glass sphere is held in a wooden ring

DARK MOON
2003
20" X 28"
Encaustic / Mixed Media
A companion to "Full Moon" - here we explore the cycle in a different order, from dark moon to dark moon ... a time of starting new projects, and beginning. Words and symbols are sewn into the center darkness to underline these ideas. A glass sphere is held in a wooden ring.

LOOK CLOSELY
2003
8" X 16"
Encaustic on Wood./ Microscope
On a day where everything was going 'badly' in the studio - I grabbed this old microscope and just had fun! Without attachment to out come - and time to play. Various items are buried or semi-buried in the wax.

SPIRIT HOUSE - "FAITH"
Approx. 30" in length
Encaustic copper on board
This was made for the Transformation Show (03) and honored those who has gone before. Inspired by cultures across the globe, there are many personal objects embedded.

EARTH
38" x 38"
Encaustic / oil paint on raw linen
The element earth is so fundamental to our lives. Rocks, sticks, earth, seeds and leaves are found in the wax. Earth also signifies the direction North, the dark moon and winter.

AIR
38" x 38"
Encaustic / oil paint on raw linen
Another elemental piece, air sits on the east side of the canvas and also signifies the waning moon and spring. Feathers, clouds and seeds found their way into this painting.

FIRE
38" x 38"
Encaustic / oil paint on raw linen
This piece celebrates fire, the direction south, the full moon and summer. Fire is the element of passion, spark and survival. A small glass jar of ashes is sewn on to symbolize transformation.

WATER
38" x 38"
Encaustic / oil paint on raw linen
The last in the elemental series, water is about fluidity and moving gracefully around obstacles in life. Shells, rocks and snails are semi-buried in the deep wax. Water also represents the direction west, the waning moon and autumn.

CENTER
32" x 32"
Encaustic / oil paint on raw linen
The center is the mystery and the void. Many layers are concealed in the sewn center of this painting. Creamy layers of pale yellow wax hold organic naturals such as rocks, sticks and seeds.

ANYWAY
34" x 34"
Collage, sewing and encaustic on canvas
This meditation on found objects was made over the course of a month. Each day I would include a stick, seed, butterfly wing, leaf etc. and sew it in or glue in down. The piece can be hung from any side or corner.

THE DIRECTIONS REVISITED
32" x 32"
Encaustic sewing on canvas
Focusing on the four directions (again!)
I explored in further depth what each contains...the element, season, moon phase etc. and used organic materials and collage to illustrate each.

REMEMBERING
2 - 8" x 8"
Collage and sewing on canvas
Made tenderly and with love, these small collages contain iris and music and recall a particular time in my life.
