A Rose in Snow

This winter, on February 2 and 3ù 2001, Guelph’s growing dance audience is being offered yet another opportunity to expand its horizons when Sarah Jane Burton and Friends present a delightful evening of contemporary and theatrical dance in the Co-operators Hall, River Run Centre.

The feature performance premieres a new contemporary dance work, A Rose in Snow, with a commissioned score by James Gordon. Expressing the resiliency of the human spirit, the work shows how the emotions felt in displacement and longing are balanced by the discovery of beauty and humour. Aspects of winter and hardship are cleverly interwoven with energetic, passionate dances.

Other works to be performed include the “hot” finale section of the swing musical Jump, Jive and Swing presented last year by Circle Theatre at River Run Centre. The company of eight dancers includes several originally from this area who are now working professionally.

Performances of A Rose in Snow begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults or $12 for students/seniors, and are available from the River Run Box Office (519) 763-3000.
