Susan studied Art History at Leeds University, U.K. (1973) and has worked in watercolour ever since, her style evolving through further studies in the U.K., Europe and southern Ontario. Her works are to be found in private collections in the U.K., U.S., France, Holland and across Canada, and have appeared in numerous group shows, including most recently: Portrait of the Artist and Insights (Wellington County Museum, 1998); Objets Trouvés (Homer Watson Gallery, Waterloo, 1998); and Expressions '98 (Eaton Centre), where each painting won an award.

The realism of her subjects, achieved through careful drawing and technical skill with watercolour, is heightened by being placed in an environment of rich textures, often achieved by collage with oriental papers and found natural materials. This gives an ephemeral atmosphere to the painting, as if the subject is being viewed through a veil, and it adds to the nostalgia or transitory nature of the scene.

Susan's work is displayed at Guelph Artisans in the Eaton Centre, and she is frequently asked to give workshops in watercolour collage, both out of her own studio in Everton and elsewhere. Her next one is at the Japanese Paper Place in Toronto on Feb 6, '99 (info from 416-703 0089) and her next solo show will be at the Bookshelf Cafe
(March 14th to April l8th l999)
